Richard LaMotta is perhaps best known for inventing the Chipwich ice-cream sandwich in 1981. He sold over one billion Chipwiches before selling the company in 2002. As an undergraduate, LaMotta began his entrepreneurial career by selling 55,000 copies of his Music 101 final project through the Brooklyn College bookstore. After graduating from New York Law School, he formed a company, 21st Century Industries, in order to market a prototype security system to the Metropolitan Museum of Art, which resulted in a contract worth over $30 million. His newest company, eStudentBiz, employs a network of high school and college student representatives to promote new products. LaMotta has received numerous distinctions throughout his career, including Sale & Marketing Magazine’s Entrepreneur of the Year and Adweek’s Product of the Year.
