Founded with funding from the Starr Foundation, the Center for International Law supports teaching and research in a broad range of areas of international law. The Center derives much of its strength from interaction with New York City's business, financial, and legal communities. It also has an advisory board. The Center:

  • Is the publisher of The International Review, which is the award-winning and only academic newsletter issued by an ABA-accredited law school that reports on a broad range of contemporary international and comparative law issues. In 2007, the Newsletter on Newsletters awarded The International Review with its Gold Award for "Best Edited Organization Newsletter."
  • Sponsors conferences and symposia which bring together business people, legal practioners, and national and international public figures to discuss timely topics in international law.  Recent topics have included global migration; the International Criminal Court; the European Court of Justice; the Appellate Body of the World Trade Organization; Latin American financing; the Russian securities markets; the introduction of the Euro; and the compatibility of world trade and the environment.
  • Organizes C.V. Starr events and the annual Otto L. Walter Lecture. Speakers, who give lectures on current topics in international law, have included a former Director of Legal Affairs of the World Trade Organization; a prominent justice of the Constitutional Court of South Africa; a former United States Secretary of the Treasury; prominent academicians and practioners; and Presidents of the American Bar Association, and of the Association of the Bar of the City of New York.
  • Engages in various international law and foreign policy projects.
  • Provides extensive on-line resources for researching careers in international law, including direct links to internship opportunities, career forums, and study abroad materials.  Federal work-study opportunities are also available for students.
  • Sponsors Fellows, Scholars, and Associates (including the Law School's Harlan Scholars).

The Director of the Center is Professor Sydney M. Cone, III, who is C.V. Starr Professor of Law. The Associate Director is Associate Professor Tai-Heng Cheng. Michael Rhee is the Managing Editor of The International Review and the Administrative Associate Director.
