The Domestic Violence Project will holds events throughout DV Awareness Month in October. Past event have included:
A Bake Sale: Last year we raised over $500 for our family, which helped change their lives. The bake sale is a kick-off for many other fundraisers we will have for this family during the year.
The DVP Panel luncheon: The panel discussion was a talk on Domestic Violence in the Workplace. Jack Tuckner, Esq. of Tuckner, Sipser, Weinstock & Sisper, LLP delivered the keynote address on the connections between the workplace and domestic violence/intimate partner violence. Tuckner, Sipser, Weinstock & Sisper, LLP is the country's only "Women's Rights in the Workplace" law firm.
Thirty-seven percent of women who experience domestic violence report that the abuse had an impact on their work in the form of lateness, missed work, keeping a job, or career promotions. Among working women who are victimized, 60% are reprimanded for diminished performance and 30% are fired.
New York City is one of only several cities in the US to adopt a comprehensive "Human Rights Law" that protects victims of domestic violence from discriminatory treatment at work, such as being fired, demoted, harassed, or otherwise subjected to any adverse employment actions due to their experience with domestic violence.
